Old Boy Lawn Bowlers

The GPS Old Boys Bowling Association conducts an annual cpmpetition for Old Boy Bowlers. The competition is now in its 51st year. The competition was devised to promote goodwill and camaraderie amoungst GPS Old Boys – and in that repect it has succeeded.

SIC has won this competition on more occasions than any other school but it is now a long time since our last success. This year, with one match left to play, we are in second place. The remaining match is against Newington, the current leader. A win against NC will give us the trophy again, but, based on current strength and availability, a win for SIC is going to be very difficult.

We are urgently in need of new players, of any standard. We therefore appeal to any bowler to make himself available for any or all of the matches during this year.

Games are played at Warringah Bowling Club, Bradleys Head Road, Mosman, with a roll-up commencing at 1 p.m.

General

There are 7 matches each year, held on the first Sunday in May and June (to avoid clashing with Mothers' Day and Queen’s Birthday) and thereafter on the second Sunday from July to November. TAS Armidale has never fielded a side but its City Old Boys have played from time to time as needed.

Each of the eight Sydney schools plays each other once, with points awarded as in Pennant Play. A side is made up of two teams of triples. One point is awarded for a team win and two points for a side win.
